KOTA BARU – PAS is set to field candidates in the Melaka election, said secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
However, he said, the party has yet to decide on the number of seats it will contest and its candidates.
PAS has set up a parent committee for the state polls chaired by vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, he said.
“We also hope that the state election is contested based on consensus, as has been established at the federal level. All parties should be united (and) there should be no clashes with one another.
“We will be together with all the parties that are with the federal government,” he told reporters after officiating at the Kota Baru PAS general meeting at a hotel here today.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, meanwhile, said the Barisan Nasional lynchpin has not yet decided whether it will go into the election “solo” under the coalition or work with other parties.
The matter will be decided by the Supreme Council when the time is right, he said.
“As of today, we have not made a decision. The Supreme Council, which met recently, has not made a decision on how we will face the state election,” he told the press in Kuala Nerang, Kedah, today.
The Melaka assembly was dissolved on October 4 after Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali saw four assemblymen – Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sg Udang-BN), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor-BN), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu-independent) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas-Bersatu) – pulling their support for him as chief minister. – Bernama, October 16, 2021
