KUALA LUMPUR – Two flood victims came to the defence of the migrants arrested for looting shops in Taman Sri Muda.
In a viral video on Twitter, two victims – who only identified themselves as aunt and niece – explained it was the migrants who assisted flood victims when waters submerged the houses there.
In fact, when waters were rising, a resident there carried up a gas tank for a neighbour who wanted to prepare fried rice for trapped victims.
“He climbed up the roof and gave the gas tank to a neighbour who brought her stove upstairs.
“She prepared fried rice, and then passed the gas tank and stove to another neighbour who made tea,” the aunt said.
After preparing the dish, the fried rice was put into packs, while the tea was placed in bottles, after which an Indonesian with a floatation device passed it around the neighbourhood.

The niece who also spoke in the video said that the food was prepared and distributed among each other to keep themselves calm, especially when food supplies were dwindling.
“Instead of hoping for the government to help, place your hopes on the rakyat. Regardless of race and nationality, we helped each other out,” the aunt said.
She said the Bangladeshis who initially experienced negative treatment from residents before the floods, heroically placed their lives at risk for the Taman Sri Muda flood victims.
The woman pointed out that the Bangladeshis took food from Mydin, which was distributed to the trapped residents.
“During the floods, the Bangladeshis put their lives at risk. They took food from Mydin and gave it to the people.
“But today I saw people saying they stole. But why are they stealing during floods? You all weren’t there to see.
“Children were crying, and they gave instant noodle packets to them,” the aunt said. – The Vibes, December 22, 2021
