KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, was admitted to the National Health Institute (IJN) yesterday to undergo health check-up and follow-up treatment, according to Istana Negara.
Royal Comptroller Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the procedure is following an intervention treatment for His Majesty’s knee joints and ankle, which he underwent in September 2020.
The ruler will also undergo respiratory treatment at IJN. He is in generally good health and his admission is not cause for concern, said Fadil.
In a statement today, Fadil said the Agong initially went for the intervention treatment on September 24, 2020, after an MRI scan showed he had sporting injuries to his joints.
“The follow-up treatment was postponed from that date due to Covid-19 standard operating procedures at all public hospitals, including IJN.
“His Majesty is scheduled to return to the palace soon after he completes the procedure.
Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah was seen arriving at IJN at 2.50pm today.
Members of the press have been gathering at IJN since yesterday after receiving news that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the health facility’s Cardiac Care Unit since Thursday.
Her daughter Datin Marina Mahathir had said that the nonagenarian is in stable condition and is responding well to treatment.
It was previously reported that on December 16, Mahathir had been admitted to IJN to undergo health screenings and was released about eight days later after undergoing several tests.
He was admitted again earlier this month and later discharged on January 13 after spending seven days in health facility. – The Vibes, January 23, 2022
