KOTA KINABALU – Covid-19 cases continue to rise unabated in Sabah, breaching the four-digit mark today.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 1,205 cases were recorded in Sabah today, tripling in just a span of three days.

“Cases have tripled within three days. With 43.7% sporadic and symptomatic cases. Expect the number to rise further,” he said in his Twitter post.

Some 99.4% of the cases are in Categories 1 and 2, he said.

Four districts showed a significant three digit increase namely Sandakan with 230 cases, Kota Kinabalu (213), Penampang (113) and Tuaran (113) cases.

“The higher cases were attributed from sporadic infection with 527 cases or 47.3%. The numbers also showed that the virus is already within the community and causing faster and wider spread. It will get worse before it gets better,” he said.

Masidi said one new cluster has been recorded today involving a 66-year-old man who showed symptoms on January 30 after attending a wedding in Weston Beaufort.

The man was confirmed positive on February 3 following a PCR test and further screening revealed 27 other cases,” said Masidi, adding that the cluster was named as Kg Weston-Beaufort.

Four deaths have been confirmed, one each in Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud and Tawau, he said. – The Vibes, February 5, 2022
