KUALA LUMPUR – An old Instagram video of a “wingover” has resurfaced involving what looks like one of the helicopters in today’s mid-air collision in Taman Melawati.

The Malay Mail reported that the light Heli Cabri copter bearing the registration number 9M-HCB is seen in the video, taken at Bukit Jugra, Kuala Langat, executing a “wingover” – when an aircraft makes a steep climb, followed by a vertical flat-turn – near trees in the presence of a group of cyclists on the hill.

In the clip, posted by Instagram user @whynot_lonewolf on June 20, the aircraft makes a brief landing before abruptly taking off.

The helicopter in both the clip and crash is identifiable through its tail number, a code unique to an aircraft that is required by international convention to be marked on the exterior of every civil aircraft.

It appears to bear the same number as one of the helicopters in today’s crash that killed two people.

It is not known who was flying the helicopter in the video.

The user who originally posted the clip is Wendy Tan, one of the two survivors of today’s crash.

The incident, which claimed the lives of Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 41, happened in Taman Melawati at noon.

Earlier reports said the blue-and-white helicopter in the video was involved in a mid-air collision with a red-and-white Heli Cabri with the 9M-HCA registration number.

The first aircraft, which was carrying the two victims, crashed in a small clearing, while the other made an emergency landing in a nearby school field.

Police have confirmed that former Malaysian Airline System Bhd group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, who was one of the pilots, was in the helicopter that landed in the field.

The two aircraft are said to have been conducting flight tests, and are believed to be part of Jauhari’s My Heli Club.

Following the accident, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said a technical investigation based on Annex 13 of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation, International Civil Aviation Organisation, has been initiated by his ministry's Air Accident Investigation Bureau. – The Vibes, November 8, 2020
