GEORGETOWN – Some 1,000 employees at a major electronics factory in Bayan Lepas have undergone Covid-19 screening today after the health authorities detected several positive cases within its compound.

Sources told The Vibes that the screening test was conducted through a unique drive-through approach involving all departments and staffers of the factory at the free industrial zone here.

It is believed that the cases at the factory were linked to the Bayan clusters, with positive cases detected both in Kedah and Penang.

“This screening test is to ensure that all staff take safety measures, as not to infect the others within the community.

“The company also takes the responsibility in ensuring that Covid-19 can be curbed in Penang,” the spokesperson from the factory said.

Meanwhile, a survey of the plant found that it was temporarily shut down to ensure the smooth screening process of swab tests.

The screening process was conducted by state public health inspectors.

Penang Health Department Director Dr Asmayani Khalib could not be reached for comment.

Yesterday, Penang recorded 26 new Covid-19 cases with a total of 370 active cases.

Meanwhile, the Penang Federation of Private Medical Practitioners Society President Dr Parmjit Singh said that those feeling unwell are still encouraged to visit their doctors or private clinics.

The conditional movement control order (CMCO) may be in place, but if the necessary standard operating procedures are practised, those who are unwell need not worry.

They can continue to consult their doctors, said Parmjit.–  The Vibes, November 12, 2020
