KUALA LUMPUR – A viral video on the We are Malaysians Facebook page showing a group of “basikal lajak” riders engaging in dangerous stunts is old footage, said police today.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said police checks on the eight-second video found that the incident took place circa 2016.

“Based on the checks, it was found that the ‘basikal lajak’ activities that took place in the viral video occurred at Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

“It is believed that the video was deliberately disseminated again via social media by irresponsible parties, and the public is advised to refrain from sharing such old images and videos to prevent confusion and anxiety among the public,” he said in a statement today.

Sarifudin also said members of the public who have queries or relevant information regarding such viral videos may contact the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department hotline 03-2026 0267/69, or do so at their nearest police station.
