GEORGE TOWN – A University Sains Malaysia (USM) student was found dead on campus on last night, after he was believed to have fallen from the eighth floor of the student hostel, at which he was staying, police have said.

The victim was found by fellow hostel residents, who later alerted police, according to Penang northeast district police chief Soffian Santong.

The deceased was identified as Lukman Haim Mat Rani, a 22-year-old student with USM’s education faculty.

“We will record the statements of the roommates and take eyewitness accounts,” Soffian said when confirming the case.

Police have classified the case as sudden death, and the body has been sent to the Penang hospital for post-mortem.

The incident has gone viral in USM circles, with its undergraduates’ association posting a condolence note on its social media sites.
