GEORGE TOWN – The Penang government is expected to announce the successful bidder for the Penang Hill Cable Car project by the end of this year.
State Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the evaluation process was underway and a Request for Proposal for the project was called on January 13 last year and ended on November 30 last year.
“The evaluation findings will be submitted to the Technical Committee and the Steering Committee based on the Penang State Public-Private Partnership Project Guidelines (2021),” he said in reply to an oral question from Lim Guan Eng (Air Putih PH) at the Penang State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Zairil explained that as a Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (BFOT) project, all construction and operating costs of the project will be borne by the successful bidder.
He said the state government welcomed proposals for business and financial models or any value-added features to the project,” he said.
“We will ensure the successful implementation of the project so that the people of Penang will benefit from it,” he said.
Last year, the Penang government through Penang Bukit Bendera Corporation announced its intention to continue the Penang Hill Cable Car project with the cooperation of the private sector after the RM100 million allocation for the project was cancelled by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government in April 2020. – Bernama, June 1, 2022
