KUALA LUMPUR – The Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry will meet with chicken farmers to discuss the new ceiling prices and supply issues following the prime minister’s decision to continue to cap poultry prices

In a statement, minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said the supply of chicken for the third week of June is stable and sufficient for current monthly demands.

“The technical committee on food security and supplies will meet on Monday, June 27 to continue to monitor the status of the country’s food supply and the implementation of intervention measures to address the issue.”

A few hours ago, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the prices of chicken would be capped despite an earlier announcement this week that ceiling prices would be lifted by July 1.

“At the same time, the government has decided that the prices of chicken in the market will not be floated,” he said, adding that further details will be furnished by Kiandee soon.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi had announced on Tuesday that the government will no longer impose a ceiling price control on poultry, as well chicken eggs, effective July 1.

Under the current ceiling price, poultry is capped at RM8.90/kg for Standard Round Chicken and RM9.90/kg for Super Round Chicken in Peninsular Malaysia.
