MIRI – State ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is in the midst of finalising its candidate list for the looming 15th general election (GE15) and is ready to mobilise for the national polls at a moment’s notice.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) – a member of the alliance – supreme council member Datuk Abdullah Saidol told reporters in Kuching today that the state alliance has begun canvassing voter support, seeing that the election is just around the corner.

“GPS has issued instructions to all our machineries in all the 31 parliamentary constituencies to be fully ready. In fact, we are already canvassing for support on the ground.

“The candidate list is being finalised already,” he said.

A senior GPS figure had recently said the alliance could win 28 out of the 31 parliamentary constituencies in Sarawak.

PBB vice-president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believes that GPS can regain seats it had lost in previous polls.

“We in GPS are confident we can regain many of our seats lost in the 14th general election. GPS gaining ground in seats like Selangau, Lubok Antu, Saratok… we can beat the opposition this time.

“In the (Bumiputera) majority areas, GPS has regained lost grounds,” he had said earlier. – The Vibes, August 24, 2022
