GEORGE TOWN – A fruit stall seller near Penang Hospital tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, causing an immediate closure of his business premise for sanitisation.

All hospital staff who patronised the fruit stall located at the block B foyer from November 16 to 19 were called to fill in a declaration form online, so that they could undergo a Covid-19 risk assessment, with those deemed high risk to be contacted by the public health unit for further examination.

The hospital’s main entrance is at Block B, and through checks with hospital personnel, The Vibes can confirm today that those who needed to undergo screening have been alerted.

The individual did not contract the virus from the hospital, however, it was discovered through contact tracing.

It is believed that the patient’s housemate was first infected with Covid-19.

The sanitisation process at the premises has also been carried out.

Meanwhile, the Taman Free School Temporary Hawker Site (TPS) reopened today after it was closed by the Penang State Health Department for 14 days from November 13 to 27.

All operators of the 136 active stalls at TPS Taman Free School completed their Covid-19 screening test.

The part that was temporarily closed involved the morning market section that has 68 stalls and involves 72 stalls operators.

Penang reported a surge of Covid-19 infections today totalling 64 cases. There are currently 13 active clusters with a majority of cases originating from Mukim 12 with 25 cases, Mukim 13 with 15 cases and Mukim 11 with 5 cases. – The Vibes, November 27, 2020.
