KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysians nationwide will be lucky to observe a full lunar eclipse which is to happen between 4.02pm and 9.56pm, today.

A tweet by the Malaysian Space Agency (MySA) said the phenomenon, however, cannot be witnessed during its initial phase as the eclipse will happen when the moon is below the Earth’s horizon.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon moves into Earth’s shadow, an occasion which happens when the sun, Earth and the moon are very closely aligned along an axis.

This happens as Earth is between the moon and sun when it is a full moon and it is close to either lunar node.

A full lunar eclipse is expected to be in the skies at approximately 7pm.

“The people of Malaysia will have the opportunity to witness the phenomenon when the moon begins to rise on the eastern horizon as the people of Sabah and Sarawak get to experience the phase when it is in a full lunar eclipse.

“While those in West Malaysia will get to see it during the maximum lunar eclipse phase, until it ends at 9.56pm,” the agency posted on its Facebook page.

Observers, MySA stated, are advised to ensure that no obstacles or other forms of obstruction are present in the area, so as to witness the eclipse. – The Vibes, November 8, 2022
