KOTA KINABALU – There is no need to drag Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Barisan Nasional (BN) into the peninsular political stalemate, said state BN information chief Datuk Raime Unggi.

He said the leaders and supporters of both coalitions should remain calm and avoid making statements that could further hurt the political cooperation in Sabah.

“Sabah BN heeds the decisions of the central leadership, but at the same time, we also want to maintain the current GRS-BN pact.

“The matter of who supports who, we are leaving this matter to the higher-ups to make the decision,” he said here today.

Raime also agreed with GRS information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai that the GRS-BN leaders will do whatever in their power to avert a political crisis in Sabah.

“The situation in Kuala Lumpur is hot right now and also involves our leaders who won seats in the general election.

“But I believe and am confident we can avert any conflict between GRS and BN.

“The scenario at present forces us to stay silent for the time being.”

Some of the component parties of GRS are in Perikatan Nasional at the national level. The current prime minister impasse is due to no coalition winning 112 seats to achieve a simple majority in Dewan Rakyat.

In the recently concluded election, PH managed to secure 82 seats, while PN won 73. Both coalition leaders have separately claimed to have the majority support of MPs to form the government. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022
