SANDAKAN – The Ranau-Sandakan main has been affected after two days of continuous heavy rain, making some stretches unsafe for motorists.

A 3am landslide blocked off both lanes of Jalan Mangkadait and was only cleared by Works Department personnel at about 10.30am, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said.

This is the only road that connects Ranau to Sandakan. No casualties were reported from the incident so far.

However, floods are affecting other stretches of the road from Telupid onward to Sandakan. Photos of inundated areas in Kg Taviu have gone viral since this morning, showing that the Telupid-Sandakan road is not safe for use.
