KUALA LUMPUR – Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin showcased his colourful side with his debut as a radio host earlier this morning.

Being the latest addition to Hot FM’s Bekpes Hot, the former Umno man was welcomed by radio hosts Mohammad Yazid Lim Mohamad Aziz, better known as Johan, and Muhammad Azmir Selamat.

Khairy’s debut as a host was highly anticipated, as it was claimed by Johan that many have turned on their radios to listen in.

Various topics were discussed, including Khairy’s life post-election last year, with him disclosing that he felt “jammed” as he did not know what to do and constantly thought of his future.

He added his morning routine now mostly consists of sleeping in, following his mandatory rest period.

Khairy showed clear effort to be an entertaining radio host, engaging in repartee with his colleagues, and even joking about whether the radio station’s sponsor, a skincare brand, could help lighten his skin.

On his reason for joining the team, Khairy quipped that he does not want to be forgotten, given his desire to continue pursuing a political career.

“Hot FM is the best in the market. Of course, I still have aspirations to be a politician,” he said.

“(I) do not want people to forget me, so (by being in this station,) we can talk and joke every day,” he added.

Khairy’s humour did not discount his earnest side – he highlighted the Turkiye earthquake and available options by which listeners could donate.

Several listeners were also given the opportunity to chat with Khairy.

One such audience member, Radirul, wished him well for his new career and anticipated an increase in listenership for the station.

Meanwhile, a town planning student who goes by the name Afiqah barely contained her excitement when discussing Kuala Lumpur’s regional planning with him.

Khairy also confirmed he is set to have a managerial role with Johor Darul Ta’zim FC and thanked Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for giving him the offer.

Last week, it was announced by Media Prima Audio that Khairy would be the latest member of Hot FM’s Bekpes Hot, weeks after his expulsion from Umno. – The Vibes, February 15, 2023
