KOTA KINABALU – Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Shahelmey Yahya remains as Putatan MP after the high court here dismissed an election petition by a Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate today.
PH’s Awang Husaini Sahari was ordered by Justice Wong Siong Tung to pay costs amounting to RM10,000.
Awang, who lost to Shahelmey in the 15th general election in November by 124 votes, filed a petition seeking to annul the results for the seat in January.
Shahelmey, who is also Sabah deputy chief minister cum works minister, is also Tanjung Keramat assemblyman, a state seat under the Putatan parliamentary seat.
He is one of five people’s representatives from BN who had openly announced support for the Sabah governing coalition Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, against Sabah BN’s earlier stance. – The Vibes, March 10, 2023
