GEORGE TOWN – DAP has released its list of 19 candidates for next month’s Penang polls, confirming speculation that prominent party veterans would be dropped to give way to new faces.

Seven of the 19 or 36% are new faces, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who announced their names at a hotel here today.

Those dropped include state caretaker executive councillors Phee Boon Poh and Chong Eng, and caretaker deputy chief minister P. Ramasamy.

Phee’s daughter Syn Tze is among the new faces.

Loke, in a speech before announcing the candidates, reminded them of the responsibility they shouldered.

He said if they won, victory would not be theirs alone but for the party and coalition they represent. In line with that, he also reminded the party machinery to work hard and support the candidates.

Loke also announced two candidates for Kedah, incumbents Teh Swee Leong and Tan Kok Yew, who will be defending the Kota Darul Aman and Derga seats, respectively.

The Penang candidates, their seats, status (new or incumbent), gender, and age are as follows:
