KOTA KINABALU – Sabah remains keen to enter into the carbon trading business, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
However, he said this still requires detailed refinement before any deals can be realised.
“We are still in the midst of refining the details (on carbon trading). It is something that is good for the state to explore.
“The revenue from carbon trading can be very lucrative, but there are other matters involved such as management, areas and other matters that must be done properly and organised,” he told reporters here after attending the Sabah Scholarship Awards ceremony today.
Last week, a coalition of more than 60 civil society organisations, CSO Platform for Reform, demanded the state clarify its stand on the controversial Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA).
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan asserted the NCA remains in effect – a deal that was purportedly signed in secrecy between the state government and Singaporean company Hoch Standards.
The deal was non-binding and deemed “legally impotent” until it meets all requirements and was finalised by the state, said Sabah Attorney-General Datuk Nor Asiah Mohd Yusof. – The Vibes, August 1, 2023
