KUANTAN – Pahang Perikatan Nasional (PN) confirmed that it will contest the Pelangai by-election, according to its chairman, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.

“PN is discussing the most suitable candidate,” he told Bernama briefly here today.

Meanwhile, Pahang PAS deputy commissioner Andasura Rabu said they have handed in a list of candidates to the central leadership for consideration and would meet next week to discuss the by-election.

The Election Commission has set October 7 as the polling day for the by-election, with nominations on September 23 and early voting on October 3, after the state seat fell vacant following the death of Pelangai assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun, 53, in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam on August 17.

The electoral roll for Pelangai shows that there are 16,456 registered voters, 16, 417 of them ordinary voters, 36 police personnel and three voters abroad. – Bernama, August 24, 2023
