KUCHING – An explosion inside a unit in a block of flats along the Kuching-Serian highway killed a man and injured his teenage daughter.

The explosion, believed to have been caused by a gas cylinder, resulted in a fire in the Flat Batu Gong that destroyed the main bedroom, said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department today.

“We received an emergency call about 11am about the fire.

“The Batu Lintang fire station rushed firefighting units to the site and found the main bedroom totally destroyed.

“There were three people inside, a man believed to be in his 40s who was dead and a teenage girl injured on her arms by broken glass.

“A woman who is the wife of the man was found suffering breathing difficulties,” said the department in a press statement.

Firefighters found a gas cylinder that is believed to have ignited the explosion and the fire.

The exact cause of the explosion and fire is under investigation and the remains of the deceased have been handed over to the police. – The Vibes, September 2, 2023
