KUCHING – During a crackdown against vehicle theft syndicates in state capital Kuching, Sarawak police have found a motorcycle that was reported stolen in Selangor – some 1,000kms away across the South China Sea.
Kuching district police chief Asst Comm Ahsmon Bajah today said the police recently launched an operation against vehicle thefts and recovered some twenty stolen vehicles of all sorts.
One motorcycle among them was traced all the way to an owner living in Selayang.
"During the ops, we recovered twenty vehicles that had been stolen, and arrested 21 suspects, including a male youth aged only 17.
"Among the vehicles recovered were six cars, and the rest were motorcycles,” he said.
"One of these stolen motorcycles has been traced to an owner in Selayang in Selangor.”
“The motorcycle had been reported stolen twelve years ago in Selayang but was now found in Sarawak during the special operation.”
The police are now probing how the vehicle was brought to Sarawak.
"We are liaising with our police counterparts at the Gombak police headquarters to get more details," said Ahsmon.
It has been reported that vehicle thefts often happen in dark or isolated areas, many of which are without CCTV coverage.
Cars of older models are also targeted as they have alarm systems that are easier to override or cut off, he said. – The Vibes, September 12, 2023
