SHAH ALAM – Former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has been appointed the state opposition leader after Perikatan Nasional assemblymen unanimously chose him to lead them.
His appointment came after all Selangor assemblymen were sworn in today.
Once a prominent figure within Pakatan Harapan, Azmin was the MB from 2014 to 2018. With his appointment, he now completes a full turnaround to an opposing role in the 56-member state assembly.
During his tenure as the MB, Azmin initiated several key projects that are currently subjects of debate and scrutiny. These include the Shah Alam stadium project, which his successor Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari inherited.
Azmin is a founding member of the Reformasi movement but it has witnessed a significant shift following the Sheraton Move, which he helped engineer. He then took up senior ministerial roles under subsequent administrations.
His role in the Sheraton Move has earned him the label “traitor” from various segments and he has been trying hard to shed the tag.
With Azmin now at the helm of Selangor opposition, the effectiveness of his role, the credibility of his leadership, and the intent behind his actions will all be under the microscope. – The Vibes, September 19, 2023
