PETALING JAYA — Perikatan Nasional today claimed that Kuala Kangsar MP, Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid was intimidated and threatened to support the unity government.
PN secretary-general, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said on Oct 1, Iskandar Dzulkarnain was taken to meet a high-ranking officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at a hotel in Damansara.
There, he was allegedly threatened that he would be charged with corruption unless he signed a media statement which had already been prepared.
The media statement allegedly stated that Iskandar Dzulkarnain supported the unity government so that it would again have a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
"On Sept 26, Dzulkarnain was approached by a businessman with a "Tan Sri" title believed to be closely linked to the prime minister.
"He was pressured to support the prime minister and was also offered money and positions in several companies," alleged Hamzah in a statement.
In a meeting with PN chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Iskandar Dzulkarnain appeared stressed due to the intimidation.
"PN urges the unity government to stop abusing their power and intimidating members of parliament.
"This sort of practice is against the democratic principles in the country," he said.
Hamzah also said PN acknowledged the decision made by its Political Bureau Meeting to summon Iskandar Dzulkarnain for an explanation before taking further action.
Yesterday, Iskandar Dzulkarnain in a statement decided to support the prime minister's leadership and that his decision was made following complaints from his voters and the urgent need to deal with the rising cost of living faced by his constituents. - The Vibes, October 13, 2023
