PETALING JAYA - The Supreme Leadership Council of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will hold an emergency meeting tonight after four of its MPs pledged support to the unity government.
Bersatu president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the move by the MPs was a serious breach of party discipline.
"The actions of the four MPs are also against the mandate of the people who elected them based on the confidence and principles of Perikatan Nasional's struggles.
"I have received information that the move by the opposition parties was to weaken PN and Bersatu by using bribes and threats against the MPs," he said in a statement.
Yesterday, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik became the fourth Bersatu MP to support Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
A day earlier, Gua Musang MP Datuk Azizi Abu Naim also said he had decided to back Anwar’s government for the sake of his constituents.
Citing similar reasons, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman had earlier also pledged their backing for Anwar.
"I call on Bersatu members to remain calm and steadfast and continue to defend the party's struggles while the leadership deals with this matter," added Muhyiddin.- The Vibes, November 9, 2023
