THE 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal is described on the net as a large corruption, bribery and money laundering scandal.

This scandal, which began in 2009 in Malaysia, became global in scope and was exposed in 2015.

Today, the world knows it as one of the world’s greatest financial scandals. In 2016, even the United States Department of Justice took pains to describe it as the “largest kleptocracy case to date”.

Thirteen years down this trail of unbelievable, heart stopping exposes and numerous investigations, we are still unable to save the nation’s dignity, honour and reputation.

Instead, one convicted felon remains as free as a bird, while he continues to parade on red carpets and savour the standing ovations and adulations of “malu apa bossku”.

Another is officially labelled a “fugitive”, and no one seems to know his whereabouts – in a world where even Osama Bin Laden could be pinned.

Patriotic citizens are exhausted in spirit.

Citizens who truly love this nation and would not hesitate to give their lives to defend its sovereignty are flabbergasted.

Custodians of nationhood appear either as being indifferent or are being increasingly perceived as powerless.

Institutions of vanguard appear castrated. Increasingly people are also suspecting their integrity.

Even the Malaysian Judiciary is now losing its shine in the eyes of gravely concerned citizens even though admissibility is remote.

How much longer must citizens who are truly loyal to the country suffer this disgrace?

How long must Malaysians who believe in their respective religious teachings and uphold their Malay, Chinese, Indian and other traditions be hammered with the unending shamelessness of the corrupt, deceiving, plotting, guilty criminals?

Will we eventually have to swallow the same bitter pill as that of the Altantuya murder that has seen no closure even after all these decades? – The Vibes, March 28, 2022
