THE VIBES kicks off its inaugural podcast on news and current events named The Good, The Bad and The Ugly with seasoned newsmen Datuk Zainul Ariffin Mohamed Isa, Datuk “Rocky” Ahirudin Attan and Terence Fernandez.

In this episode, they discuss the apparent trend of politicians challenging each other to public debates, such as the upcoming one called on by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim against Datuk Seri Najib Razak over financially troubled oil and gas firm Sapura Energy Bhd.

Are these debates relevant to the average citizen? Are bread and butter issues (such as on B40 concerns, youth unemployment, Covid-19 management) being sidelined for the potential entertainment value of having big names taking each other on for political validation?

There is also the ongoing subject of capital punishment which has flared up with renewed heat.

Are we the pot calling the kettle black in the outrage surrounding the execution of Malaysian citizen Nagaenthran K. Dharmalingam in Singapore, when we ourselves have over 1,200 people on death row?

Where do we stand when we have yet to abolish the death penalty in Malaysia despite the moratorium on executions in 2018? What is the role of civil society in affecting change on both sides of the causeway?

Malaysians also now see the end of the movement control order (MCO) looming over us.

So what about the data collected from millions of Malaysians through the MySejahtera app over the past many months?

Our panellists also wax lyrical about the experiences, including lessons and tribulations, from the pandemic and how much this global health calamity has changed the world we currently live in. – The Vibes, April 30, 2022
