DATUK Afdlin Shauki is no stranger to Malaysian and Asian cinemas. He has acted in, written, produced and even directed more than his fair share of successful and award-winning movies.

Hence, when he shares how on two occasions he was rejected for grants by the Malaysian Film Development Corporation (Finas) without any reason, one would want to understand why.

Despite all the members of the selection committee liking the premise and idea of Senarai Rahsai Fakhrul Firdaus, the movie didn't receive Finas funding.

Afdlin talked about those rejections with Datuk Kamil Othman and Manvir Victor in this week's episode and explains the process clearly.

Do his political affiliations, perhaps, have anything to do with these decisions and how can the process be improved?

What ails the film industry in Malaysia? Will we ever see either Finas or the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture come on this show to illuminate to us what is the game plan for the arts in Malaysia? If you have any suggestions, do tweet @manvirvictor. – The Vibes, November 10, 2022
