THE Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) welcomes efforts to introduce new sports that can add value to the country's sports ecosystem and industry.

In line with current developments, the number of sports under the First Schedule of the Sports Development Act 1997 (Act 576) has now increased from 39 to 103, encompassing various traditional, modern and digital disciplines.

Sports Commissioner (PJS), Suhardi Alias said, the ministry welcomes the development, which is very relevant to the current sports scenario.

"This is a very good development because it opens up more opportunities for young people to get involved in sports more seriously," he said after handing over the Jalur Gemilang to the National Digital Dodgeball team in Shah Alam today.

Suhardi explained that the ministry has also recommended that the Dodgeball Sports Association establish a collaboration with the Malaysian Electronic Sports Federation (MESF).

"This collaboration will definitely add value to the development of the digital sport of dodgeball to emerge as a favorite among many in the future," he said.

The country's digital dodgeball team made history when it was selected to compete in the 2025 HADO World Cup in Shanghai, China, from 23 to 25 May.

HADO is an augmented reality-based sport that is increasingly popular with the younger generation and is seen as having high potential to elevate the country's name. - May 6, 2025
