TENGKU Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has been officially announced as the new President of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for the 2025–2029 term, succeeding Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, who held the position for nearly a decade.

Currently serving as Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Zafrul becomes the 13th President of BAM after securing the post unopposed during the association’s 80th Annual General Meeting.

A prominent political figure and corporate leader, Tengku Zafrul described the appointment as a great honour and a responsibility he is prepared to shoulder with full dedication.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Allah for this appointment and thank all council members for the trust and mandate given to me to lead BAM as its new President.

“It is a great honour and a responsibility I shall carry with utmost dedication and commitment,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul believes that a strong collaboration between the private sector and government will strengthen BAM’s stature both nationally and globally.

“I believe that with cooperation between the private and public sectors, we can empower BAM to become a model sports body, not only in Malaysia but also on the international stage,” he added.

He also extended his appreciation to Acting President Datuk V. Subramaniam and outgoing President Tan Sri Norza Zakaria for their invaluable contributions to Malaysian badminton.

“Congratulations also to Subramaniam on his reappointment as Deputy President I, and to Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos Janarthanan as Deputy President II.

“It has not been easy to bring BAM to where it is today, but the presence of these distinguished individuals clearly shows that we all share the same vision of seeing Malaysian badminton continue to excel on the world stage,” he said. - May 10, 2025
