THE government has allocated RM700 million for national sports development and preparations to host the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games, as Malaysia seeks to strengthen its sporting ecosystem and develop more high-performance athletes.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said RM460 million would go towards national sports development, while RM240 million had been earmarked for preparations to host the two regional sporting events next year.
“We celebrate the success of Malaysia’s contingent at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which won nine gold, seven silver and 16 bronze medals. To all our athletes, coaches and support personnel, congratulations and thank you for bringing honour to the country,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat.
“Next year, we will once again welcome our neighbouring countries as host of the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.
“These prestigious events must be used to enhance the country’s standing and foster unity among the people. Therefore, RM240 million has been allocated for preparations to host the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.”
Anwar said the national sports development allocation would cover high-performance sports programmes, the Road to Gold initiative, development programmes for para-athletes and deaf athletes, as well as maintenance of sports facilities nationwide. - October 9, 2026
