KUALA LUMPUR – It was a memorable moment for members of the Malaysian contingent at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics when they had the opportunity to meet International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach today.
Chef de mission Moira Tan, alpine skiing team manager Salehhuddin Ayob and coach Ryan Shorter also used the opportunity to take photographs with Bach at the Yanqing Olympic Village (YVL).
“Bach was seen talking to athletes and team officials in the Main Dining Hall. Moira also took the opportunity to convey OCM (Olympic Council of Malaysia) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria’s best wishes to the IOC president,” the OCM posted on their Facebook page.
This is only the second time that Malaysia, a tropical country, are taking part in the Winter Games, where they are being represented by alpine skiers Aruwin Salehhuddin and Jeffrey Webb.
Debutant Aruwin finished 38th in women’s giant slalom on Monday. She, however, fell while competing in the women’s slalom event on Wednesday.
Jeffrey, who made his Winter Olympic debut at the 2018 PyeongChang Games in South Korea, is set to compete in the men’s slalom event on February 16. – Bernama, February 11, 2022
