KUALA LUMPUR – National sailor Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif cruised to the gold medal in the women’s ILCA6 laser radial event at the Asian Sailing Championships 2022 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday.

The 24-year-old came out top after recording nine points at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club to brush aside her nearest challenger, India’s Nethra Kumanan (17 points).

Nancy Highfield of Hong Kong took bronze with 27 points.

“Alhamdulillah, finally (a) gold medal,” said the national Olympian in a post on her Instagram account today.

Meanwhile, Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy also performed admirably to bag a silver medal in the men’s ILCA7 laser standard event.

The Kedahan, who is also an Olympian, accumulated 21 points to finish behind gold medallist Vishnu Saravanan (16 points) of India while Hong Kong’s Nicholas Bezy (26 pts) came in third.

Khairulnizam, in a post on his Instagram account, said he was thankful for his achievement in the UAE, adding that he would now head for Spain to compete in a championship at Palma de Mallorca. – Bernama, March 7, 2022
