KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has announced the departure of men’s doubles coach Flandy Limpele effective April 1, 2022.

In a statement today, BAM said there were efforts made to offer Flandy new terms, but the 48-year-old coach has made the decision to not extend his contract as he wishes to embark on a new journey.

“BAM would like to put on record its sincere appreciation to Flandy for his dedication and commitment, wishing him every success in his future endeavours,” the statement read.

Coach Flandy commented, “After careful consideration and discussion with the doubles director of coaching, Rexy Mainaky, I feel it is the right time for me to step down.

“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve BAM for these two special years,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rexy thanked Flandy for his hard work and professionalism over the last two years at the association.

“He has laid the groundwork in the men’s doubles department for us to build on and he has contributed memorable moments.

“I am proud of the work that we have done together, and I wish him the very best in his next chapter,” he said.

Coach Rexy added that there is still much to be done to continue the upward trajectory of the men’s doubles squad.

“I promise that I will continue to work hard to lead this department to greater heights,” he added.

Flandy was a former Indonesian shuttler that competed at the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

He also won gold at the 1999 SEA Games, as well as bagging two gold medals at the 2007 edition of the games. – The Vibes, March 28, 2022.
