KUALA LUMPUR – With the success of making it into the round of 16 of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) moved Malaysia up to 10th in the AFC Club Competition Ranking in Asia.

JDT beat South Korean league leaders Ulsan Hyundai FC 2-1 in the last match of the group stage to finish top of Group I.

The win gained Malaysia another six points in the AFC Club Competition Ranking and moved both club and country up in the ranking.

In their post on social media, the club said Malaysia is now 10th in the continent, and fourth in East Asia after overtaking Thailand, Vietnam, and China this year.

Malaysia is currently below region leaders Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

“JDT has contributed 24 of the 24.45 points earned by Malaysia since 2019,” it said.

In their group stage journey, JDT had also collected the most points among the other contenders from Asia.

With four wins, one draw, and one loss, the club gained a total of 13 points, giving them the advantage to be top of the group and qualifying for the knockout stages.

According to VocketFC.com, JDT was awarded another three points for finishing top in the group, giving them a total of 16 points.
