KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Competitions Committee have decided to hold the National Under-16 Hockey Championships at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil from June 15 to 25.

This marks the return of the tournament, which features both the boys’ and girls’ teams, after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

MHC Competitions Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Anil Jeet Singh said the decision was made after obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Education (MOE) as the country had now entered the endemic phase.

“This matter (the Under-16 championships) was agreed by MOE yesterday and they will fully bear the expenses for the 28 teams in each state involving 14 boys’ and 14 girls’ teams, including from Sabah and Sarawak,” he told a media conference here today.

He said the MHC would inform the teams of the standard operating procedures (SOP) and competition format in stages, adding that, for now, the rules state all players must have been fully vaccinated. – Bernama, May 14, 2022
