KUALA LUMPUR – World number two women’s shuttler Tai Tzu Ying books her spot in the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open after defeating India’s P. V. Sindhu 13-21, 21-15, 21-13 in the opening match of the tournament’s fourth day.
The Taiwanese player had strong support from a full Axiata Arena as she was heavily challenged by Sindhu in the first set but gained momentum in the final two sets to seal the win.
“I made many mistakes during the first round. It took me a while to get adjusted to the court condition.
“For the next match, I need to focus on myself and not make as many unforced errors as I did previously. It’s in my hands to play well tomorrow,” said the four-time Malaysia Open winner.
She will be looking to add another Malaysia Open title under her belt after winning the last three consecutively.
Tzu Ying will play fourth seed Chen Yu Fei from China in the semi-finals tomorrow after the Chinese shuttler took down Nozomi Okuhara from Japan.
In the other quarter-final match, Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon took down Han Yue of China 22-20, 21-12.
The 2016 Malaysia Open champion was put to the test in the first set by the young 22-year-old shuttler from China. But showed her experience in the second set to progress into the semi-finals tomorrow.
“I feel happy to win although it was not easy. She (Han Yue) defeated An Se Young yesterday, so it shows that she is a strong player.
“I know the next round will be even tougher, everyone is training hard to be the top player. I just need to stay calm and focus on myself, said the 2016 Malaysia Open winner.
She will play Wang Zhi Yi tomorrow in the semi-finals after the Chinese player won against Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt 9-21, 21-10, 21-17. – The Vibes, July 1, 2022.
