KUALA LUMPUR – The Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association (FTKLAA) are targeting 1,500 entries for the FTKLAA Cross Country 2022 - Go For It! scheduled to be held at Padang Merbok here on September 11.

FTKLAA president Datuk Seri Dr V. Pulainthiran said the race will comprise 11 categories, including the Kids Run category.

He also said that Padang Merbok was significant because it was where they started cross-country runs about 30 years ago.

“So we brought it back to Padang Merbok and for this particular cross-country route, we have more greenery, streams and jungles. They will run more on grass than roads,” he said at the FTKLAA Cross Country 2022-Go For It! press conference at Wisma OCM here today.

He said that Templer Park in Rawang, which was a regular venue for the past years, could not be used this time as construction work was going on there.

He added that the Covid-19 pandemic had also affected such events, with the upcoming event being initially scheduled for April before it was called off.

The 11 categories to be contested are the Men’s Open; Women’s Open; Men’s Veteran; Women’s Veteran; Men’s Junior (A); Men’s Junior B; Women’s Junior (A); Women’s Junior (B); Kids Run (boys); Kids Run (girls) and Fun Run which open to all.

The run is divided into four distances, namely 15km for the Open and veteran categories, 7km (junior categories), 3 km (Kids Run) and 5km for Fun Run.

The winners of the Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Men’s Veteran categories will each take home RM700 while the winner of the Women’s Open category will get RM500.

Meanwhile, RM300 awaits the winners of the junior categories while the winner of the Kids Run will take home RM150.
