UBON RATCHATHANI – The national swimming team are hard-pressed to achieve their eight-gold target at the Asean University Games (AUG) 2022 following the underperformance of several medal prospects.

Swimming team manager Tan Seng Seng admitted that the target had become difficult to achieve but he is hoping his charges would finish with a flourish in the remaining three days of competition.

“After two days of competition, the swimming camp has won two gold, five silver and three bronze medals. In the finals on Tuesday, we missed out on two golds, including via Welson Sim our golden hope.

“Although tough, I feel it can be achieved based on the current performance of our athletes. After this there are events in which we are gold medal contenders,” he said.

On the first day of the swimming competition, the national team won the contingent’s first gold through Low Zheng Yong in the men’s 400m freestyle.

The second gold came from Ong Yong Qi in the women’s 200m butterfly yesterday. – Bernama, July 28, 2022
