UBON RATCHATHANI – The national karate squad extended their firm grip on the Asean University Games (AUG) 2022 by snatching three more golds yesterday to surpass their medal target.
The camp’s four-gold target was achieved by Siti Nur Azwani Nor Azli in the women’s under-68kg individual kumite event at the Ban Yang Noi campus.
S. Sureeya then clinched Malaysia’s fifth gold, through the men’s under-67kg individual kumite, before A. Denishroy contributed the sixth through the men’s under-84kg individual kumite.
The karate squad also won two silvers yesterday, through S. Geerijalswaran (men’s under-60kg individual kumite) and G. Kathish (men’s under-84kg individual kumite).
They also won three bronzes, through Muhammad Arif Afifuddin Ab Malik (men’s under-75kg individual kumite), S. Rajev Naaidu (men’s under-84kg individual kumite) and Amirah Syahirah (women’s under-68kg individual kumite).
The karate squad had won three golds on Wednesday.
In athletics, Malaysia won three golds yesterday.
Luqman Hakim Ramlan leapt 7.31m to win the men’s long jump, Sadat Marzuki Ajisan hurled the hammer 56.00m to win men’s gold and Mohamad Eizlan Dahalan soared 2.10m to triumph in men’s high jump.
