KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Racing solidified their spot at the top of the standings after standing on the top podium spot for the second time this season.

Over the weekend at the Fuji International Raceway for the third round of the GT World Challenge Asia, Triple Eight JMR car number 99 – driven by HH Crown Prince Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Australian Nick Foster – won the second race of the round.

Taking advantage of CarGuy Racing’s penalty for winning race one, starting driver Foster climbed up the grid from fifth to second.

Tunku Abdul Rahman then took advantage of the lead to win the race leaving a 7.8s gap to the trailing Porsche Center Okazaki car.

The team’s second car, 888 – driven by Jazeman Jaafar and HH Crown Prince Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim was less fortunate. They were forced to return to the pit 14 laps into the race.

In race one, car 99 came in one spot away from a podium finish. They claimed fourth spot after finishing two seconds behind AAS Motorsport’s Porsche 911.

Car number 888 had a commendable finish in sixth as they were just 10 seconds off their sister car on the timing sheets.

The winners of race one were CarGuy Racing’s Takeshi Kimura and Kei Cozzolino, who also won the first race at Suzuka the weekend before.

Yogibo Racing’s Naoki Yokomizo and Kiyoto Fujinami brought their Ferrari 488 GT3 home in second.

The race teams will have a break for now in Japan, as they head to Sugo for the fourth round.

They will then have another race in Japan, this time in Okayama, before heading to Mandalika in Indonesia for the season finisher. – The Vibes, July 29, 2022.
