KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor swimmer Terence Ng was thrilled to end his stint at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) with a win over national swimmer Bryan Leong in the men’s 100m freestyle at the National Aquatics Centre, Bukit Jalil here today.
Terence, who also won gold in men’s 200m freestyle yesterday, clocked at 51.34s to beat Kuala Lumpur’s Bryan who clocked 51.5s in the final.
Despite the achievement, the 22-year-old wished to achieve the below 50-second record instead.
“I was not quite satisfied with my result because I was hoping to achieve the below 50-second record or break my personal best (51.5s).
“However, I was absolutely thrilled that I beat Bryan Leong, who represented the country at the Commonwealth Games. However, I expected to beat him,” he said.
Terence is currently in his third year studying Public Relations and Event Management at Taylor’s University.
As a student, he looked forward to balancing both his studies and swimming.
However, Terence’s biggest dream would be to represent the country in the SEA Games.
In other events, 20-year-old national swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean took a gold medal for Kuala Lumpur in the men’s 200m individual medley, clocking at 2m 4.35s, and teammate Tan Khai Xin added silver to their medal tally (2m 5.03s).
Having won a bronze medal (2m 6.32s) in the same event, Sarawak’s Hii Puong Wei also bagged a gold medal in the men’s 200m backstroke.
It would be his second gold medal after he triumphed in the men’s 100m breaststroke yesterday.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old national swimmer Bryan was victorious in the men’s 50m butterfly, clocking at 24.65s. – The Vibes, September 20, 2022
