KUALA LUMPUR – National Sports Council director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said that athletes selected for the 2024 Paris Gold Programme will receive assistance regardless of whether they are independent or affiliated with a national sports association.

The monitoring committee, which is led by Olympic Council president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, has yet to announce the names of athletes who are selected to be part of the 2024 Paris Gold Programme.

He said that the selected athletes under the programme will receive help in the form of sports science, funding, and the best coaching setup for them to bring home Malaysia’s first Olympic gold medal.

“We want to give them the best so that they can properly prepare for Paris 2024 and achieve the country’s dream.

Shapawi added that the 2024 Paris Gold Programme, which is part of the Podium Programme, is similar to the other initiatives that were set up for the SEA Games and Asian Games.

However, he said more information regarding the programme will be explained after the committee meet at the end of the month.

Previously, Norza said that the criteria for national athlete selection into the programme will be tightened to those who are truly capable of sitting atop the podium. – The Vibes, January 19, 2023.
