KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia hammered Kazakhstan 5-0 for their second Group B win in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship (BAMTC) at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday.

National women’s singles shuttler Wong Ling Ching got the ball rolling when she delivered the first point after trouncing Aisha Zhumabek 21-6, 21-13 in just 21 minutes.

Men’s singles ace Leong Jun Hao then made it 2-0 for Malaysia when he defeated Dmitriy Panarin 21-12, 21-16.

Women’s doubles pair Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing ensured victory when they took just 19 minutes to overcome Nargiza Rakhmetullayeva-Kamila Smagulova 21-7, 21-7.

Malaysia then completed the rout when men’s doubles stars Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik downed Khaitmurat Kulmatov-Artur Niyazov 21-5, 21-17 and mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei tamed Makhsut Tadzhibullaev-Aisha Zhumabek 21-9, 21-10.

Malaysia will take on India today to see who will top Group B.

Only the top two teams from the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals while the four best teams will win automatic spots in the Sudirman Cup. – Bernama, February 16, 2023
