KUALA LUMPUR – The women’s cricket squad became the first group from the Malaysian contingent to arrive in Phnom Penh, Cambodia yesterday for this year’s SEA Games.

National Sports Council (NSC) athletes’ division director Jefri Ngadirin said the information was received from the contingent’s secretariat in Cambodia comprising officials from NSC, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), and the National Sports Institute (NSI).

“We get daily reports from NSC, OCM and NSI staff there. At first, there were some unresolved issues such as accommodation and transportation, but Alhamdulillah, today all those problems have been sorted out.

“The cricket athletes are also already at their designated accommodation,” he told reporters after visiting the final assembly camp of the national SEA Games contingent at Casa 4, NSC here today.

Touching on the three-day camp which began today, Jefri said it involved about 550 national athletes.

He said the programme was the final phase for athletes to get motivated before Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announces the medal target for the biennial games on Sunday.
