KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah today granted an audience to Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal at Istana Hinggap Perak here.

In an MHC statement, the visit was to discuss with Sultan Nazrin on organising the 2023 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament, Sultan Nazrin Shah Cup International Indoor Hockey Championship (Men’s), and Tuanku Zara Cup (Women’s) 2023.

The Perak ruler has approved the organisation of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament which will enter its 30th edition in early 2024.

He also approved the 2023 Sultan Nazrin Shah International Indoor Hockey Cup and Tuanku Zara Cup 2023 to take place this November in Ipoh, Perak.

For the record, the national hockey squad made history when they ended a 39-year wait to win the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup for the first time after defeating defending champions South Korea 3-2 in the final at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium in Ipoh, last November.

Malaysia had previously finished second five times in 1985, 2007, 2009, 2013, and 2014 editions since the tournament was first held in 1983. – Bernama, July 7, 2023
