PENANG FC general manager Jeffery Chew Gim Eam aims to woo Penang-born football star Faisal Halim into his team.
The footballing career of Faisal, who is a winger with Selangor FC, was disrupted by an sulfuric acid attack last Sunday. His star was on the rise after he was called up last year to join the national team.
Chew said Faisal, who was born and raised in Permatang Pauh, was one player Penang FC was eyeing.
"Faisal is humble. He was a talent in our youth grooming system before he moved to Selangor," he said.
Chew hoped his club's interest in Faisal would inspire the player to recover from his burn injuries and and focus on his career.
"We have plans to bring back Penang-born players."
Chew said Faisal could help revive Penang FC fortunes in the Super Premier League in the coming seasons.
Faisal is reported to be in critical but stable condition. His movements and speech are said to be impaired by fourth-degree burns.
He faces a series of surgeries.
Faisal was taken to a private hospital while still conscious after the acid attack.
He suffered burns to his face, neck, shoulders, hands, and chest.
His condition received global attention, with stars of Manchester United wishing him all the best in his rehabilitation process.
His was the third attack on a Malaysian football player this month.
Last week, another national player, 25-year-old Akhyar Rashid, was attacked by armed robbers at his condominium when he returned from training. He suffered a 4cm gash in his forehead.
