HIS Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor has graciously consented to receive RM64.9 million in business and income zakat contributions, handed over to Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) in a formal ceremony at Istana Alam Shah on Tuesday.
The contributions, made by 13 corporate donors and one individual, were led by Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), which paid RM28.01 million in business zakat, making it the largest corporate contributor to LZS this year. The payment was formally presented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.
Other corporate contributors included Cyberview Sdn Bhd with RM5.43 million, represented by CEO Kamarul Ariffin; Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) with RM4.57 million, presented by Datuk Ir Azmi Md Yusof, Chief Business Solutions Officer; and Gas Malaysia Berhad, which contributed RM3.50 million through its Group CEO, Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap.
Bank Rakyat was represented by its Chairman, Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak, who delivered a zakat payment of RM3.42 million.
Additional contributors were Proton Holdings Berhad (RM3.19 million), DRB-HICOM (RM2.45 million), PLUS Malaysia Berhad (RM2.60 million), Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (RM1.64 million), Maybank Islamic Berhad (RM1.60 million), Etiqa Takaful Group (RM1.50 million), Edgenta Infrastructure Services Sdn Bhd and the National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS), each contributing RM1 million.
Corporate individual Datuk Kamarudin Meranun also made an income zakat payment totalling RM5.07 million.
Present at the ceremony were the Chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), Datuk Salehuddin Saidin; LZS Chairman, Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail; Deputy Chairman, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang; and LZS Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Khaidzir Shahari.
According to Mohd Khaidzir, the funds collected will directly benefit more than 350,000 zakat recipients across Selangor, supporting a range of socio-economic development and welfare programmes.
“We deeply appreciate the commitment of corporate entities and individuals who continue to select LZS as their primary zakat payment channel,” he said.
“These contributions will be utilised to strengthen asnaf development initiatives and enhance the overall well-being of the community in Selangor,” he added. - Sept 4, 2025
