HENRY Golding, who has been consistently booking roles in Hollywood since 2018’s ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, has now been cast in Netflix’s adaptation of the Jane Austen novel ‘Persuasion’.
This telling of the romantic drama is set in the modern day and concerns Anne Elliot (Johnson), who’s snobby family is on the brink of bankruptcy, but who reconnects with Frederick Wentworth, a man she once rejected, and now faces a second chance at romance.
However, although Golding has been playing love interests in ‘A Simple Favor’ and ‘Last Christmas,’ he does not play that role in ‘Persuasion’. He will be playing Mr. Elliot, the cousin of Johnson’s character. The actor playing Frederick Wentworth has not been announced.
Carrie Cracknell, known for directing plays on Broadway, is helming her feature directorial debut. The screenplay was written by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.
The film is expected to begin filming this month with a planned release in 2023.
‘Persuasion’ was Austen’s last novel before she died in 1817. The story has been adapted for the big and small screen numerous times. – The Vibes, May 12, 2021
