SHAH ALAM – Students in tertiary education from the B40 income group will get free tablet devices under the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia scheme, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He added that the tablets will be of a “popular brand”, and the students do not need to return the devices upon graduation.

“To ensure uninterrupted education among B40 students, the government has allocated RM450 million via Budget 2022 for the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia initiative.

“I’m happy to announce that the government has agreed to give branded tablets to all recipients.

“No need to borrow, no need to return them,” he said in a speech during the launch of the scheme at Universiti Teknologi Mara here today.

He said with the growth of technology, it is necessary to ensure an improved online learning process, which is systematic and effective.

“A majority of students use technology in their daily lives, especially to improve their knowledge. However, (there are) those who cannot afford to do so – having to depend on borrowing devices or going to an internet cafe just to attend online classes or complete assignments.”

In addition, the registration period for the Keluarga Malaysia Youth Package for prepaid internet has been extended to help more students and teenagers get access to the internet.

“The affordable prepaid package for teenagers and students, which was introduced last October and expires next month, will be extended,” said the prime minister.

“The extension will allow more students to subscribe to the youth packages offered by mobile service providers.”

Also, the Keluarga Malaysia sales initiative will be extended to universities and educational institutions to help students weather the rising cost of living. – The Vibes, September 3, 2022
